This quarter I am teaching a World Literature course that features science fiction from the around the world. TMC was our first book and I intentionally chose books that were similar in theme--focus on humanity rather than "rockets, ray guns, and robots." Here is our reading list:
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea -- Jules Verne (French) We -- Yevgeny Zamyatin (Russian) Solaris -- Stanislaw Lem (Polish) Cosmicomics -- Italo Calvino (Italian) The Ark Sakura -- Kobo Abe (Japanese) I also think it would be interesting to compare TCM to the original War of the Worlds. In fact, I have read some suggestions that Bradbury intentionally wanted to "redeem" the reputation of Mars with his book. |

Any novels that would be a good accompaniment for TMC?
